The same reason there are a ton of different hotel brands and car brands: false choices. Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, what's the difference? Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram are even worse.

Enterprise, Alamo and Avis are the same company. Avis, Budget, Payless and Zipcar are the same, and Hertz, Dollar and Thtifty are all the same.
