They wouldn't get "killed" any more than any other dealer / company selling cars at auction. Yes, dumping all their cars at once would depress prices - for everyone. If Hertz completely fails and liquidates their cars will go to auction. Dealers will buy them and then sell them to public at retail prices.

The point of selling cars direct to buyers is to get more money per car. Someone buying from Hertz is no more a sap than someone buying from any other dealer. Hertz is selling for less than average dealer prices so yes that is still a deal.

You aren't going to get wholesale prices from a dealer and the general public isn't allowed into wholesale auctions.

Again, how is a 1 year old car selling for less than 50% of new not a deal?
