I understand how it works, and the mech said put in neutral before puttung in P. He also said there is nothing you can do... they just fail.
I had a brand new corolla 2006 with the MMT single clutch automatic. It was jerky but never a single problem (except at 30k km the motor went bad and was replaced under warranty, I asked to see the motor/broken parts, it was just a simple DC motor with a cable coming out of it, the kind you see on bicycle brakes, they did not let me keep it, said it was going back to HQ. So even if i had to fix it at my own dime, I doubt it would have been expensive.)
