It was quite shocking for me that Toyota would use a seemingly cheaper transmission in Europe, while in a more budget-conscious market such as Brazil the Corolla resorted to a regular automatic. Well, considering Europe still has a higher pick rate for the manual, the presumably fewer changes on hardware enabling some degree of parts commonality with the manual tended to justify the MMT, resembling what Fiat did with its Dualogic transmissions in Brazil back in the day.
