So I am hoping to get suggestions on both ends of this.
1. Best way to get dog accustomed to riding in the side car?
2. Side car vs. trailer? I assume sidecar would be best and will be referring to the device as a sidecar.
My thoughts on 1: let dog get used to side car by itself. Then attach sidecar to bike. Then maybe walk dog and walk the bicycle along with for a bit? Then try and get dog in side car and push bike/side car combo? Then ride?
2: I have an old child trailer that someone was throwing out. The cloth part was real tattered so I have already removed it. I think it would be best to convert the trailer into a side car style for the dog. I feel like him next to me would be better than him behind me where it might be hard to see him.
The dog is ~65 lbs and his back/shoulder blades are just under 2 ft or so. He wears medium size stuff (harness, etc.) I am going to try and use the side car on an unpowered bicycle, but if it's just too much I have a motorized bicycle I can attach it to. It's not very quiet though and would probably require an extra step to get him accustomed to riding in it.
An added bonus is that I could use the sidecar as a cargo unit when he isn't in it.
Does anyone see any problems with the idea? Suggestions for the design?
