Transport dog on bicycle side car.
So I am hoping to get suggestions on both ends of this.
1. Best way to get dog accustomed to riding in the side car?
2. Side car vs. trailer? I assume sidecar would be best and will be referring to the device as a sidecar.
My thoughts on 1: let dog get used to side car by itself. Then attach sidecar to bike. Then maybe walk dog and walk the bicycle along with for a bit? Then try and get dog in side car and push bike/side car combo? Then ride?
2: I have an old child trailer that someone was throwing out. The cloth part was real tattered so I have already removed it. I think it would be best to convert the trailer into a side car style for the dog. I feel like him next to me would be better than him behind me where it might be hard to see him.
The dog is ~65 lbs and his back/shoulder blades are just under 2 ft or so. He wears medium size stuff (harness, etc.) I am going to try and use the side car on an unpowered bicycle, but if it's just too much I have a motorized bicycle I can attach it to. It's not very quiet though and would probably require an extra step to get him accustomed to riding in it.
An added bonus is that I could use the sidecar as a cargo unit when he isn't in it.
Does anyone see any problems with the idea? Suggestions for the design?

Besides the noise of the auxiliary engine, the smoke could also bother your dog. If I were you, I would probably consider some upgrade to the exhaust design.

Sidecars have, apparently, become a thing with electric bikes. Lots of pics out there for ideas.
Kids trailers were the way to go before.
Noise and smoke, as already noted, are going to be your real issue with either.

Either synthetic 2-stroke oil or Castor-based oil would decrease the unpleasing smoke. For noise suppression, I have already seen some folks stuffing a portion of the exhaust on 2-stroke motorcycles with glass wool taken out of old fridges.

Maggie, my sons German Shepard with hip issues learned to ride a bike trailer because she cant go to her favorite dog park otherwise.
See Pavlov experiment.

I knew many Pitbulls who are as gentle as my small dog. BTW once I was buying a cup of coffee at the convenience store of a gas station while walking the dog, and a lady who was afraid of dogs got frightened when she noticed Vanessa unleashed and waiting for me at the door of the store.

Weigh of 65 lb would affect handling of a side car. Consider an electric motor.

Some weight is actually supposed to improve the handling with a side-car.
