Even if it would still be insulated enough to prevent heat irradiation to become discomfortable on summertime, the lower cost with plumbing is already a desirable feature. Not to mention the shorter plumbing runs would decrease the heat loss on the way from the boiler to the tap or the shower, which would allow to use fewer power.
