That's a big loss. Does that car actively heat the battery, when needed?

And yes, I would have liked both a heat pump and the direct heating windshield defroster. My family also really wanted the rear seat to be heated.

A heat pump uses less power than resistance, but as the temperature drops lower, the heat pump systems add resistance heaters, so the consumption savings is in the times when it is down into the 20's or so, and then it goes up very close to a resistance heater in the teens and below.
