For me the whole reason for getting one ($70 if you bring you own mouse and cables) is the 40-pin GPIO header. This is bare metal access. I could make my own fembot. Mu-ha-ha-ha.
The downside is audio over HDMI, and no port for the Raspberry camera lineup. Also, I'd field strip it and paint that raspberry pink case.
