It may have been mentioned before, but I did not read through the entire thread.
If you do decide to try something down low in the snow/ice building area (s), make it:
A) really sturdy!
B) easily removable with
C) tools and a garbage bag or tarp you carry with you at all times

That kludge of snow/ice/gunk has some serious destructive power
