Even though I'm not too strict when it comes to body-on-frame vs. unibody, sometimes it seems to me that GM departing completely from the RWD layout on passenger cars became part of the problems it faced later, not only in the USDM but also in overseas markets. Considering some Chinese Wuling minivans often sold as a Chevrolet in export markets retain the RWD layout, sometimes it seems to have not been to hard to also apply it to regular cars now that some GM platforms have a higher development input from China, it seems quite surprising how RWD became restricted to trucks while it could not only save GM but also benefit customers who need something more rugged.

There's a local guy who hoards Buick Roadmaster wagons because they're the "last big wagon" that does pickup-like things. I'm pretty sure they'll fit the proverbial 4x8 plywood sheet in back, too.

Had the wagons also qualified as "light trucks" for taxation purposes just like minivans and SUVs do, they wouldn't fade away.
