I intend doing this latter test with tuft and pressure testing down the side of the car. I've also suggested to the owner taping up the openings in the covers for a third tuft/pressure test (but obviously that won't give overall drag).

I don't know how the weather will be, but if you had inclement weather, it would be interesting to see what the splash and spray is like.
Around here, during rain events, pickup trucks generate so much spray from their wheelhouses, that it's dangerous to be anywhere near them on account of visibility.
With the tight clearance between tires and wheelhouse on the Tesla, and aero
wheel covers, I suspect that one could actually 'see' the difference between 'on' and 'off'.
