I'm trying to figure out the effect of each slot. The leading edge is radiused but the trailing edge is blunt? There are lefts and rights, right?

I don't think that there are lefts and rights - but I may be wrong. The Tesla shop appears to list only one type - see here.

I think it's pretty well as simple as looking at the blockage ratio, and having the face of the wheel fairly flat. I know that there is a lot more detailed research available than that (and I cover a fair amount of it in my book) but I think in essence, it's just those two factors.

suggestions

I intend doing this latter test with tuft and pressure testing down the side of the car. I've also suggested to the owner taping up the openings in the covers for a third tuft/pressure test (but obviously that won't give overall drag).

Without spending a lot more time (these tests will each take 2-3 hours), any other suggestions?
I don't know how the weather will be, but if you had inclement weather, it would be interesting to see what the splash and spray is like.
Around here, during rain events, pickup trucks generate so much spray from their wheelhouses, that it's dangerous to be anywhere near them on account of visibility.
With the tight clearance between tires and wheelhouse on the Tesla, and aero
wheel covers, I suspect that one could actually 'see' the difference between 'on' and 'off'.
Cool project! Thanks.
