Sweet, lets see this one go better than the Tropica
A decent hobbiest solution is the best start since now we have few "Standard" methods to work with and none are very areodynamic.
I am already waiting for it to come into production so I can buy one.
Much easier to bypass problems when you leave some assembly required, especially legal issues

If you had a 217 mile range in 1996, where do you think you'll be at today?

I assume that refers to highway speed given a 90ahr 288v pack gave that range my guess would be a more conventional lead acid 200ahr 72v setup (which is easy to find) would give you about 40-80 miles range depending on speed. (just a guess) Until he completes #1 it won't be known how fast or far. And the SIZE battery pack also greatly affects range curves and weight with lead.
A lead sled is about the only way you get far with lead.
