My "idiot light" fades in and out. The longer you drive into the reserve the brighter it gets and stays on longer. I can usually push the car another 100 miles once the light goes on but honda's get a little hard to start once gas gets under 1 gallon left.
My gauge sweep is pretty much exactly 6 gallons used to indicated half tank, 10 gallons used when hitting "E", and almost 2 gallons left after the light starts freaking out
