Mine wasn't built to look neat. It just ended up that way as a result of my design requirements.

and nothing homebuilt but I wanted to share my ebike. I got a great deal on a used 2015 Stromer ST1 from Blazing Saddles in San Francisco back in November.
After we bought an eGolf I got pretty lazy about taking the bike around town. The ebike has finally replaced pretty much all short trips by car. Did a 13 mile round trip to the dentist on Tuesday and grocery run yesterday. Power assist goes up to 28mph. I can maintain 20mph with easy pedaling so it really doesn’t take much longer around town. Very happy with it.

The most important thing is that it is functional for your application. And it is.
What kind of range does it get in what conditions?
I don't imagine it's very comfortable on bad roads since it lacks suspension. But with a top speed of only 28 mph, it's something one could most likely live with. I'm guessing it does 750W peak and uses a torque sensor for determining acceleration.
