My theory on Toyota's obsession with gaping maw grilles is that it's partly a result of having hydrogen vehicles in their line-up.
If I'm not mistaken, the H2 cars actually NEED gaping maws for fuel cell-related heat exchange duties.
Maybe Toyota's trying to get us used to the styling around H2 cooling demands.
