From what I've heard, building a trike is as different from building a 4-wheeled vehicle as anything since the many regulations are either non-existent, or much relaxed. It seems much of the safety requirements are gone, crash testing, active restraint requirements are gone... I don't think there is an EPA efficiency protocol to meet, etc.

I think Tesla could churn out a trike about as quickly as they engineered "not a flamethrower" if Elon snapped his fingers.
