How much variety have there been in Teslas? Sure, the Roadster was one thing, but you had the S, then the shrunken III, then the supersized X, and then the Why, somewhere between a III and an X.

All of those seem like variations of the original. Aside from an even-smaller II, I don't know where else they could go.

The pickup seems to have a completely unique frame and body and it looks like it is taking them 9-10 years to go from the first S to the first pickup.

Building a street-legal four-wheel vehicle seems as different from a trike as the pickup is from the S.

From what I've heard, building a trike is as different from building a 4-wheeled vehicle as anything since the many regulations are either non-existent, or much relaxed. It seems much of the safety requirements are gone, crash testing, active restraint requirements are gone... I don't think there is an EPA efficiency protocol to meet, etc.

I think Tesla could churn out a trike about as quickly as they engineered "not a flamethrower" if Elon snapped his fingers.

One of the videos (#883, #884 or #891) recounts the story of how Elon Musk was the first person to wreck an FUV. His old college room mate had an early [SRK? FUV?} and Elon hopped in, 'floored the gas' and went straight into a retaining wall.

Shortly after, he went on record saying Tesla would never make a three-wheeler. So -- one less thing for Arcimoto to worry about.

The factory is on day 252 and they expect to roll Cybertrucks off the line by the end of this year.

The Roadster, S, X, 3, Y and Cybertruck are all unique, although they have a family corporate resemblance there are vast differences in the construction.

Arcimoto have teased their V2 chassis -- 150lb, $2K, 3kWh, 35Wh/mi. Probably a tilting front suspension. (I wouldn't want to take one of those out on 126, let alone I-5)

It sounds like Elon drives as well as my brother with autism. I am glad that he hasn't gone around saying they are dangerous.

IIRC "unstable" was the term he used.

In a typical car company the S, X, 3, and Y would be on one platform. With Tesla they are on 3 and the Cybertruck would be a 4th platform.

For example the Focus (sedan, hatch, and wagon), Lincoln Corsair, Escape, Bronco Sport, Maverick, and next gen Transit Connect are all built on the Ford C2 platform.

Generally a set of vehicles designed together that share major sub systems and a set of hard points that allow them to be assembled on the same assembly line. It is more complicated upfront but saves a lot in the long run.

The Bronco Sport (CUV), Maverick (truck), and Transit Connect (Van) will be all build on the same line in Mexico in any combination. They don't run them in batches with tooling changes between models

Honda does the same thing in Alabama were the Odyssey (van) Pilot (CUV), Passport (CUV), and Ridgeline (Truck) are built on the same assembly line.
