Yes, many cars experience wheelspin all the way to the final timing trap at the 8-mile.
And getting sideways is the fear. The LT1 Corvette which had been two cars ahead of me at the wind tunnel, got sideways at the finish line, lifted about 8-feet, did a half-gainer, then landed on it's roof at 231-mph. The driver was okay but visibly shaken. The car was toast ( spontaneous disassembly ).
