I will add: flexing on a top fuel dragster is promoted to improve traction. I suppose they can engineer the chassis to keep the wheels planted.

Is it to improve traction or to bend instead of snapping in half?

Traction in this case is likely to keep the front tires still in contact with the pavement to allow steering corrections, rather than acceleration tractive issues.

I was surprised how much flutter is in the body panels, if I am interpreting the video correctly, vs camera shake.

Some have called it ' oil-canning' of 'tin-canning'.
I think it killed Bernd Rosemeyer, in the Auto Union racer.
According to Alex Tremulis, his streamliner's body was constructed with below-spec wall section thickness, and experienced aerodynamic deformation, causing uncontrollable yaw-induced instability that he couldn't overcome. Shame.

Yes, many cars experience wheelspin all the way to the final timing trap at the 8-mile.
And getting sideways is the fear. The LT1 Corvette which had been two cars ahead of me at the wind tunnel, got sideways at the finish line, lifted about 8-feet, did a half-gainer, then landed on it's roof at 231-mph. The driver was okay but visibly shaken. The car was toast ( spontaneous disassembly ).
