I think it's critical to the numbers I get. I'm never in gear except for a pulse here and there. It's hard to quantify the gain from this alone, but the overall P&G, including the coasting, is easily worth 15mpg of my 60. I've found in-gear "coasting" to be a net loss, except down mountains. Pulse & DFCO is about the same as or even worse than gentle steady speed.

I don't consider DFCO to be coasting. It's very much engine braking.
