My suspicion is that the donut shop in Perkinsville was a practical effect using a scale model and forced perspective.
I haven't read Tom Holt, and it's too late. Internet has destroyed my ability to absorb long-form text.
But he sounds like an interesting author. There's a lot of word play
just in the titles.
