Another possible approach might be based on this Kubelwagen tank crew trainer. The fake tank tracks could provide flotation and the only entry was through a roof-top hatch. Slow but stable, unless the pontoons were hydroplane profiled on the bottom with retractable wheels.

The pontoons could be articulated, like the 1971 Russian Venus lander's robot Prop-M to lift the Kubelwagen floorpan clear of the water.
