That was a nice floor jack they trashed.

Wonder if that has power steering. instead of this:

I'd have gone with something more like this:

Have you seen how the Schwimmer powered through the water? There was a propeller assembly that swung down over the back and basically hooked in to the crank pulley of the flat-four.

It was not a good boat, but then it was only intended for river crossings and similar small bodies of water. As a car, it was mediocre, and not particularly efficient.

But what if it was stanced and ran Fuch's?

That rod that is clipped to the top of the muffler was used by a crew member to raise and lower the propeller assembly. A modern Schwimmwagen would have a basalt fiber composite hull that would stop largish caliber rounds, and one or two hydrojets that could be steered and throttled from the driver's seat. It might look like this:

Should've renamed that pic when I squirreled it way. It was some Spanish scooter manufacturer.

The guy that drove an amphibious jeep around the world added a bow piece. A Schwimmwagen with added bow and stern pieces could have the fineness ratio of a U-bloat.

Unless you're talking one of the super stubby U-boats, it would have to be very long bow and stern extensions!!!

Perhaps that was hyperbole?

Another possible approach might be based on this Kubelwagen tank crew trainer. The fake tank tracks could provide flotation and the only entry was through a roof-top hatch. Slow but stable, unless the pontoons were hydroplane profiled on the bottom with retractable wheels.

The pontoons could be articulated, like the 1971 Russian Venus lander's robot Prop-M to lift the Kubelwagen floorpan clear of the water.

Would not that be cool?

The Schwimmwagen was based on 1930's technology. Didn't it have the 25hp engine that was before the 36hp engine? I wonder how one would perform with a 1600cc dual port. Anyhow, I believe it was a pretty good vehicle for it's time. And there're lots of things that can be improved with a little ingenuity on a vehicle like that.

On another note, what about the Sherp?

Compare with the Amphicar. The design changed to an inline four water cooled engine to satisfy the
Coast Guard.

A modern version could be all electric.

Sherps are cool. A good modern example. Those smooth tires struggle to move in the water.
