So far I am averaging 42 mpg in my 2000 LX manual tranny. Hope to do better, but happy with it so far. This is not hypermiling btw, just driving conservatively and driving as a "momentum car" (learned that years ago with the diesel rabbit),
Such capable little machines these cars are. That LX is basically my car with two more doors and some Lux Features and some chrome trim. You have the same D16Y7 engine and the same 5-speed transmission ratios. Before I knew what "hypermiling" is regularly got something like 33 or 36 mpg in combined city/highway driving because I did a number of hypermiling techniques instinctively as a game. Once, on a nearly all highway trip, I got 44 mpg on a tank (driving pretty slow and steady in the right lane). I have been driving this car for 20 years.

Peak of Honda's Cold War era engineering and manufacturing playing out, is what these late d-series Civics are.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.
