You can make beer from corn and it isn't bad but it's slightly off. Mostly the flavors in beer come from the hops selection and yeast byproducts. (think: yeast poo)
Making and distilling alcohol is time and resource consuming. Just stop at the beer/wine stage with high proof yeast and lots of sucrose.
