A follow-up:

The solar generation credits for July showed up on my August power bill. In July "my" fraction of the solar farm produced 639 kWh of electricity earning me a $4.90 credit. In July my house consumed 280 kWh of electric at a cost of $46.52 so that works out to a 10.5% discount on my electric bill for doing nothing besides signing up for the program.
