I've worked on Audis, I've worked on the notorious 924S and a lot of other things.
I can't say Toyota designes cars for easy maintainance.
It is important to remember that when manufacturers plan for service that plan for it to be done by trained dealership staff, with a full set of tools, and a lift to make access easier. VERY few people work on their own cars.
