Another factor is that few new car buyers still have the vehicle at 150K miles. Someone buying a new car doesn't care how much it cost the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th owner to fix.
But Toyota 1st time buyers pay those Toyota premium initial purchase prices because the resale is good to the 2nd or 3rd owners. If they are no more reliable than a F150 3.5 EcoBoost (which isn't in the upper 50% of full size pickups) then it may not happen in 5 years but those chickens will come home to roost. The resale will tank and then even if they figure it all out Toyota have to live with "Ford reliability" for a decade or more after the mistake is made. Honda has lost their reputation, Toyota is the last bastion of quality out there. Playing with turbos on the bread and butter at this point is a bad idea IMO.

And if the EcoBoost is any guide the owners save nothing in real world driving. If anything they play with that boost way to often and end up with much worse economy compared to a V8.
