This would have been in the day of the National 55 MPH speed limit, as with my Honda Enduro. If that made a difference.
I rode the Harley locally, but never on a road trip, so I can't personally vouch for the numbers. Fifty-five mph seemed effortless.
My brother would ultimately teach early- model H-D, at MMI in Phoenix. I couldn't count the number of MCs he's built. He was a very accomplished mechanic and machinist, helping to create Caterpillars for Eagle-Pritcher, in Lubbock. We, as a family, always did our own wrenching. Mom & Dad bought us all Craftsman tool sets by junior high, so the three of us boys were pretty twisted early in life.
Other than a good state of tune, and maybe Lubbock's reduced air density ,I don't don't have an explanation for the Electroglide's mileage.
