My brother would ultimately teach early- model H-D, at MMI in Phoenix. I couldn't count the number of MCs he's built. He was a very accomplished mechanic and machinist, helping to create Caterpillars for Eagle-Pritcher, in Lubbock. We, as a family, always did our own wrenching. Mom & Dad bought us all Craftsman tool sets by junior high, so the three of us boys were pretty twisted early in life.
Other than a good state of tune, and maybe Lubbock's reduced air density ,I don't don't have an explanation for the Electroglide's mileage.

I got my first Craftsman mechanic tool set at 10 and still have it. The latches for the plastic case broke and the 3/8" ratchet has been replaced under warranty twice but I'm still using it more than 3 decades later.
