If you're "grid-tied", then your solar is subsidized by the rest of the ratepayers, because if everyone did as you do, the grid wouldn't function. Each additional unit of solar to the grid becomes more expensive to accommodate. A single house producing solar doesn't even have to be factored into grid operations, but scale that up and it becomes significant.
If you're not grid-tied, that's either a luxury or necessity based on where you're located.
I expect a gradual transition away from fossil fuels, but that will have more to do with the natural progression of technology, and less about being admonished by autistic girls.
