Coefficient of Municipal Drag ( Cdm )

From:
Texas Department of Transportation, news, January 5, 1993, 'Synchronized lights save Texans money and time', Carlos Lopez, Special Projects Engineer, 512 / 416-3135, 125East 11th Street, Austin, Texas 78701-2483
Re: Traffic Light Synchronization ( TLS ) Program.
1) the average traffic light created 757,913.5 traffic stops / year
2) at 19,170.75-hours lost / signal light
3) wasting 13,374.94-gallons gasoline / traffic light
4) at a cost of $216,228.26 / traffic light
5) or, $ 0.285 / stop, every 42-seconds, 24- hours / day, 7-days a week, for 365-days / year
6) producing 591,000,000- pounds of carbon-dioxide / traffic light
or, 295,500-tons
7) The US Council of Governors would all have access to this data
8) All traffic engineers would have access
9) All mayors and city managers would have access
10) All of those who issue building permits would have access
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Should each citizen have experienced one unnecessary traffic stop per day, their direct and indirect losses would have exceeded the cost of the $ 3-trillion infrastructure program recently considered in the US Congress ( $ 0.284 / capita / 10-years ), as we're talking about 1993-Dollars, not yet adjusted for inflation )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* In the intervening years since the 1993 study, we've experienced an additional 8,274,000 -tons extra carbon dioxide / traffic light.
* And a $ 62 loss for every $1 not spent on synchronization ( $ 3,522 / signal ).
* And why your potentially-36-mpg- CITY full-size pickup only gets 18- mpg.
* Cdm is a hard thing to 'streamline' against.
