I still get people telling me that I should buy a pickup. Just a couple days ago I had some extended family members trying to convince me just that. Their reasoning is "you can't carry anything in a sedan," and "you can't drive a sedan in the snow." Little did they know I did a rather large remodel last year hauling materials with my Avalon and a trailer. And I've never got stuck in the snow yet in Avalon, although it was a bit difficult once to get going again up a steep icy mountain pass where a tractor trailer had jack-knifed even with my studded snows on. But that's been about the worst of it so far.
Personally I don't mind the +40mpg when my main vehicle expense is gasoline. I can't imagine spending three times what I do now.
