The radials in a DC3 ran 50/60 wt single viscosity AD oil. It is like molasses jello at cold temperatures, the starter doesn't have enough power to spin it without the fuel thinning it. Common practice in Dehavilland Beavers in the great white north, my Alaskan pacer had this option on the flat 4.

It does not migrate into the cylinder, it vaporizes out through the crankcase vent after the engine warms
