Spoiler: There's more.
1) 'extent' is not the issue.
2) You noticed how they prefaced with 'brief and short-lived.'
3) Sea-ice 'volume' is the issue.
4) Ancient ice is all gone.
5) What they get comes late, and is gone sooner.
6) It rains a lot more.
7) Rain destroys the snow.
8) Snow has a 'better' albedo.
9) Ice absorbs more solar energy.
10) Ice melts, exposing really dark water, with a 'horrible' albedo.
11) This is an amplification and feedback loop.
