Well, firstly gelled alky is a poor starter fluid, I prefer paint thinner/BBQ starter.
They kind of allude to that with a cut away during the start processes.
Cubing the pellets would reduce the burn rate, getting that started would be a demonstration of patience. Nice thing is the glue additives are typically a grain starch so you just need a shape to dry it in. I suggest a star pattern like the internals of a solid fuel rocket casing. Does need more air flow and the painting of everything's bottom with liquid dish soap.

Also looks like you can burn anything dried organic
