Modern engineering is remarkable! I am still amazed at my SRT4 running now in the 12.7s while spinning through 1st gear quite a bit at 11 mph and it still gets 32.8 mpg on the highway at 60-65....I am too impatient to drive a long distanvce at 50-55! Even while drag racing it gets better use of fuel than my 84 Horizon. It takes 6 passes in the SRT4 to use 5 lbs of gas and only 3 to use that much in my 17 second Horizon. The SRT4 is 2825 lbs while the Horizon is only 1810 lbs. I use an EGT gauge to make sure I am not to rich while going down the track and both cars run their quickest at 1490 degrees.
You can hop into a new Chrysler that is way over 4000 lbs with a 300+ hp Hemi and get better economy than a crap load of 4 bangers built in the 80's!
I just drove a pals 300 and you would never be able to tell that half the motor was shut off......I tried every thing top fell when the electronics would pick up or cut out those 4 cylinders.
