It would come at great personal cost, and yet the resulting improvement to the environment wouldn't be measurable. In the same way, we're not willing to sacrifice much money or time for the cause because who wants to give up wealth, which is measurable at the personal level, for a benefit which is not measurable?

* I might argue about the 'rationality' of people on the whole.
* I don't see 'sacrifice' necessarily on the menu. I think that people will continue to basically do all the things they like to do, they'll just do it with different stuff.
* I don't know any Christians that are that anxious to get into Heaven, so, death may be a hard sell.
* I think that real 'wealth' will increase.
* And with measurable benefits.
