I had once considered a portable battery I could charge from a standard wall outlet at work. In the winter, I'd fall short of my round trip in the Prius plug-in by about 1 mile. If I could put just 1 kWh into the car once I got to work, I'd be able to make the whole trip.

Probably could have negotiated with security to let me charge for 30 minutes behind the building where the golf carts were plugged in.
