When is something no onger obsolete?

I did consider doing a bike engine swap some years ago, which would then be all 16V DOHC territory.
For road work I rarely trouble 5000 RPM+ territory, so pushrods work fine. With throttle bodies and an ECU, the oldest part of the engine by design is the 2 valve 'chamber in piston' design, which to be fair isn't clean burning.
Modern forged pistons gave a huge improvement in performance and fuel economy.
