I don't know if you can get prepreg woven glass, diolen or other fibres but it would be very convenient and alot cheaper, all the air gets taken out for you. It does have a shelf life I think. For the spats you most likely would have needed two metres, keep quite a few offcuts for strengthening or another part. Also glass and polyester fibres won't corrode with any steel parts like carbon
Although I've not witnessed it on stuff I've bolted so far..
