Wayne Gerdes departed in the 2017 Kia Niro from Los Angeles City Hall on 4 December 2016 and arrived at New York City Hall on 11 December 2016."

The Kia Niro is rated at 52 city/ 49 highway. Wayne is known for these corporate pr records to drive publicity for the company. If you've never heard of this model of car before it's probably why the company decided to sponsor this.

This seems like an easy enough record to beat. Any takers?

Edit: A similar record for reference
I could probably beat the record in theory. The Ioniq is the exact same hybrid power train as the niro. The niro is literally an Ioniq with a compact suv frame on top of it. It only gets less mpg than the Ioniq because it’s heavier and less aero. So if a niro can do that. An Ioniq can do it better due ti lower drag. The guy probably did it in a niro because it’s more comfortable. A lot of older or heavy set people complain about the Ioniq being uncomfortable because it’s lower to the ground, the seats have no lumbar support, and the inside space is a little tighter.
