2nd thought is I don't like wind or PV as energy solutions because of their intermittency and need for much larger engineering projects to store the extremely diffuse power.

As far as renewables go, my instinct is to favor geothermal and tidal since these sources are reliable and can be integrated into the grid with less engineering.
