Cop plates indicate Calif if you squint enough at the E tag, but the state ID Looks to have tape covering it, and I don't recall a jurisdiction that had all white cars back then in SO CAL. Nerf bars were illegal, too

Never had a roadside inspection pop the hood, but they did have sniffers for the tailpipe and my tickets were for excess soot emissions at the tailpipe. Come to think of it, don't remember having an annual sniff smog check for emissions until I moved out of LA county. I recall the various mandated aftermarket stuff was a visual just to see it installed, and typically PCV, timing retard, no headers.
