My Uncle E.C. was fond of saying:
DOG BITES MAN! ( not news )
MAN BITES DOG! ( news )
I can't say anything about cable or satellite TV, as I've never had it.
FCC-regulated commercial television is ad-revenue driven.
Ratings-driven.
Rather than Columbia School of Broadcasting, 'objective', vetted, fact-checked 'information,' reported objectively, program editors may cull all potential 'news', with an eye for dog-biting people who'll drive in viewership.
ABC World News does it 5-evenings a week. Their choice of wording attempts to 'frame' how the viewer would be preferred to 'experience' the presentation. The audience cannot be trusted to experience without spin.
I just watched the mid-1970s motion picture 'NETWORK' for the first time. Ned Beatty's character is to die for!
