It's strictly limited to wavelengths which comprise the visible and ultraviolet spectra. Nothing else can make it past the upper atmosphere.
We're always immersed in plasma from the solar wind. Shockwaves can accelerate it to near the speed of light, but if it's not pointed at us, it doesn't make any difference.
The geomagnetic storms don't necessarily do anything to us either. We get more than two days to do what we need to do before it hits.
