'[M]ost cars' would be production cars. They have to accomodate edge cases, wheelwells packed with ice and snow, jounce and rebound, etc.
Solar racers are an edge case in themselves.
Stance it and use deformable (conveyor belting) canoes that respect approach andf departure angles. They start at zero so closer to the tire means closer to the ground.
