I've heard them called ECVT as well. No bands or clutches at all. I think they may be the most reliable transmission ever even compared to a manual which will need a clutch or 2 over it's life. They use them in the newer Toyota hybrids and the newer Ford hybrids and the Pacifica hybrid.
